INSTANT CHEER
FOR MEDIATORS

But if you try sometime,

You just might find...

You get what you need!

Mediation is a voluntary process of resolving conflicts with the help of a neutral third party.  In mediation, the people involved talk about the conflict and then work together to decide on the best way to resolve the conflict. The mediator invites each person to talk about the situation from their point of view, and then walks the parties through a process to try to come up with a workable solution.  Mediations can help you put your agreementment in writing.

Mediators don't tell you what to do or decide anything for you.

You can say what you want and decide for yourself how to handle your problem.

Mediation is:

  1.  Non-judgmental: Mediators listen, ask questions, and clarify so that everyone understands what is being said.
They facilitate difficult discussion and help you decide how and in what order to discuss things.  They don't give advice,  don't make suggestions, don't tell you want to do, nor do they decide who is right and who is wrong.
  2.  Confidential: Everything you say in mediation is confidential and cant be used in court.  The mediators don't tell anyone what was said or decided in mediation.
  3. Voluntary: It's your decision to come to mediation, although sometimes a judge may order you to come and try it.  Once you get here, it's your choice to stay.
  4. Quick & Affordable: Compared to the litigation process (hiring an attorney, filing a suit, service of process, formal discovery, motions, answers, & trial), mediation is much simpler and less time-consuming.  Many disputes can be solved by the people involved, who may just need a little help to understand each other better and talk together with the help of skilled mediators.
:: Directions to our family mediation space

CMC is a nonprofit community mediation center in Knoxville, Tennessee.  We have been mediating disputes since 1994, using well-trained volunteers who work in pairs as co-mediators to help people manage and resolve the conflict between them.  Check out our programs in Knox County!  We also serve surrounding counties on request:  Blount, Sevier, Anderson, Loudon, Union and Jefferson.

Here's where most of our referrals come from.

You don't have to wait until you're in court to mediate, although that's the time many people find out about mediation.  You're able to initiate mediation at any time.  Our application process is simple, and our mediations are scheduled to be convenient to working people.   Mediation prices are set on a sliding scale which takes into account individual income and family size.  Your attorney is very welcome at the mediation sessions, although some people choose to mediate without attorneys present.

Please call our downtown Knoxville office, 865-594-1879, if you have questions and talk confidentially to experienced, helpful staff! (Or leave a detailed voice mail...we will check our phone messages from time to time throughout the holidays.)
